One Los Angeles startup that was just recently launched with a bang is a company called Catchfree. Catchfree is a platform for users to share their experience about the best free apps and services. Founder and CEO Sean Ellis, experienced a common problem through his other startups and that was that free services weren’t always free, most had hidden catches.
Catchfree is a startup that will display the best free apps and services that do not have the hidden catches. The best part about the website is that the users are the ones who choose what apps and services are the best. Users can rate apps, which will then be displayed for all to see. When you go to Catchfree.com you will see the apps and services that have received the highest ratings and likes. The top apps that are chosen by the users will be offered the chance to be a part of the Catchfree network.
All the apps that are part of the Catchfree network have the privilege of displaying a Catchfree symbol that sets them a part from the other apps. With the symbol, these apps must follow a few key guidelines that insure trust for the users. The guidelines consist of no hidden catches; no credit card information needed to obtain the free version of the apps or service and the apps use best practices involving personal information.
Within 24 hours of launching the new startup, Catchfree was contacted by two of the biggest Internet companies in the world. They also announce that Catchfree received $5.5 million in funding from Polaris Ventures, True Ventures, Index Ventures, First Round Capital and 500startups.
